On the first day of the 2013 academic year, students at Ooltewah Elementary School were welcomed in to a brand-new, 137,000-square-foot facility. Working from a design by Franklin Associates, Architects of Chattanooga, Hickory Construction handled every phase of the project, from site development and roadwork to completion of the school’s 17 classrooms plus dining facilities, media center and administrative offices. The building, which accommodates approximately 1,100 students from kindergarten through fifth grade, also features a geothermal HVAC system.
At the time the contract for the job was awarded, Hickory was looking at only a 13-month window to finish the facility in time for the start of the new school year. However, the company was able to complete construction before the first day of school got under way.
