Striking Gold in 2011 !

Three Hickory Construction, Inc. projects achieved their first coveted LEED® Gold certifications in 2011 while working with the Tennessee Air National Guard and the Department of Energy constructing over 90,000 square feet:

• 241st Engineering and Installation Squadron in Chattanooga
• 134th Squadron Operations Facility at Knoxville ‘s airport
• Department of Energy – Melton Valley Maintenance Facility in Oak Ridge

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a rating system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).  It is the internationally recognized benchmark of excellence in design and construction relative to efficiency and impacts on the environment.  Working with architects and engineers, Hickory translated designs into LEED Gold quality by utilizing:

• Horizontal ground loop geothermal systems
• Automated lighting controls
• Low flow toilet fixtures
• Maximization of open spaces
• Fuel-efficient vehicle parking
• Bicycle racks
• Recycled construction debris
• Regional and recycled building materials
• Indoor air quality utilizing low VOC carpets, paints and other materials

Hickory’s participation in this technically rigorous LEED process demonstrates its continuing leadership in innovation, environmental stewardship and social responsibility.

The 134^th Civil Engineering Squadron of the Tennessee Air National Guard has given Hickory an outstanding rating for construction at McGhee Tyson.  Engineers evaluated several aspects of the project including Quality Control, Management Effectiveness, Timely Performance, Labor Standards Compliance and Safety.
