What started as a working relationship in 1990 between Tom Harper and Hickory
Construction has grown into a warm friendship and trusted collaboration. Harper and Hickory Executive Vice President Chuck Alexander met 22 years ago when the Harper Auto dealership owner was searching for a general contractor to remodel his Knoxville home. “It was a handshake deal, which I liked,” says Harper. “The house turned out wonderful.”
Since then, Hickory has led every major construction project for Harper’s dealerships, including Acura, Infinity, Jaguar, Porsche, Audi and Volkswagen. “As we started remodeling dealerships, we established a good relationship,” says Harper. “We became friends.”
Within the last few years, Harper’s son Shannon, has become Hickory’s point person at the dealerships overseeing a substantial remodel of the Volkswagen facility and construction of a detail shop. The project was managed by Michelle Barrillaro, one of Hickory’s rising young professionals. Alexander’s son Josh and Ben Pinnell, son of Hickory President Burke Pinnell, are also assuming leadership roles within the construction company.
The second generation in both companies is building upon new relationships while moving Harper and Hickory into the future.
