Green Construction: It’s been around longer than you might think.

Hickory Construction has practiced many elements of “Green Construction” for more than 30 years with particular emphasis on the building envelope, the area of a building where energy efficiency is impacted the most.

Green construction includes energy efficient basics such as proper insulation, house wraps and site preparation. However, Hickory also considers the value of durable products that offer low-maintenance for the client and less impact on the planet. Although the initial investment may be more, products such as slate roofing will easily out live other roofing materials, thus reducing the environmental impact of the manufacturing process and reducing the impact on our landfills. In addition to having a certified Green Builder, Hickory will soon have three LEED accredited professionals. From the usgbc.org website: “The Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) is a third party certification program and the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.”
