A Smart House in the Treetops

Any kid worth his weight in imagination dreamed of having a tree house where he or she could rule the world. A new house in Walland, Tennessee, built by Hickory Construction, is the next best thing, especially for grown-ups who love high tech toys.

This dream home’s cedar and stone exterior camouflages the fact that this house has eyes and ears and gives its owner high-speed access to its inner and outer workings from anywhere in the world.

The five-bedroom home features a computer control center that monitors every electrical function. With almost no need for light switches, touch screens placed strategically throughout the home give the owners access to lights, televisions, audio, security cameras, intercom and door locks. It also features a central CD/AM/FM tuner, or if preferred, six iPod docking stations around the house that can pipe music throughout the home or into selected rooms.

The owners can access the home system from remote controls in their car, and from their cell phone or internet connection. Whether they want to turn on lights prior to arrival, check the security camera, or tune into their favorite radio signal, it can be done wirelessly at home, on the road or from the office.

While rustic, crooked tree houses still hold a special place in our hearts, this tree top home has the cool gadgets that give our grown-up imagination room to explore.
